The Directors, Air Traffic Operations serve as key agency representatives on the management of air traffic operations within their service area. The incumbents provide advice, guidance and oversight to the Regional Administrators regarding the management of air traffic operations. The Directors participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and emergencies involving air traffic field facilities.
- Oversees the development of programs and standards associated with air traffic management regarding safety, program operations, operations support, finance and administration.
- Directs air traffic services, air traffic control flight assistance, and aeronautical communications systems and facilities within the service area by exercising line authority over subordinate FAA terminal and enroute facilities and operational authority over Federal Contract Towers.
- Applies aviation industry trends and experience with NextGen technologies when making strategic decisions regarding management of the service area.
- Oversees the development of standards, system procedures, and techniques utilized by service area specialists in their performance of comprehensive reviews and evaluations of air traffic services.
