As a Pretrial Services Program Assistant, you will:
1. Perform a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the program office.
2. Participate in or perform assignments in interview, assessment and supervision of persons arrested or defendants in pretrial status. Obtain and verify information on criminal history, behavior, compliance with pretrial obligations and other areas. As assigned, review defendant automated records to obtain information on compliance with pretrial release conditions, or to identify detained persons that are eligible for release. Document information and prepare reports for use by Pretrial Services Officers or Assistant Pretrial Services Officers, or for submission to the court.
3. Work with defendants checking in, document information as appropriate, and direct defendants or others to courtrooms or other areas for court ordered appearances. Maintain records of defendant contacts or acknowledgements and related information. May work with defendants in court, reviews conditions of release with defendants and explains pretrial obligations. Provide information to callers and visitors or takes messages and refers to the appropriate staff member.
4. Maintain a variety of automated and hard copy files, information and forms. Review incoming court files, identifies and corrects possible errors. Update client and defendant information in a number of systems, investigates and resolves discrepancies or refers to the assigned Pretrial Services Officer, Assistant Pretrial Services Officer or Supervisor. Prepare and deliver documents and reports to court or to agencies supervising defendants on release. Maintain case files, file incoming information and reports in accordance with office policy and procedures. Ensure that file space is adequate and appropriately maintained. Use automated systems or manually prepare reports to document drug testing conditions and other correspondences/information related to defendants; assure proper format and accuracy of information.
5. Perform office management functions, including, but not limited to, obtain supplies, arrange repair of office equipment, copy, mail review and distribute, answer telephones, and other technical services.
6. Work with clients, defendants and their attorneys, by providing general information regarding testing and unit operations, e.g., hours of operation. Maintain information on check-ins and provides information to callers and visitors or takes messages and refers to the appropriate staff member.
7. Maintain the automated time and attendance reporting system for the office. Maintain attendance information in accordance with PSA and office policy and requirements. Assure that leave is properly approved and documented and that attendance data is accurate and timely, keep supervisor informed of problems. Enter data, perform corrections and other accounting code actions into automated system, assures integrity, and maintains automated and hard copy records as required.
