    This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC), Auke Bay Laboratories (ABL), Marine Ecology and Stock Assessment (MESA) with one vacancy in Juneau, Alaska.

    Responsibilities

    As an Interdisciplinary Research Fish Biologist OR Research Mathematical Statistician (Official Title will be determined based on the qualification of the selectee), you will perform the following duties:

    • Identify, lead, and conduct research that focuses on stock assessments, fish population dynamics, and ecosystem-based management as a lead stock assessment specialist.
    • Prepare assessments of the status and trends of groundfish stocks.
    • Conduct statistical modeling of Alaska groundfish populations that support analyses for living marine resources in the North Pacific Ocean.
    • Prepare written results detailing the data, methods, and outcomes of the assessment and publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

    NOTE: These duties are described at the full performance level of the ZP-4, the ZP-3 is developmental leading to such performance.

    Occasional travel - Up to 20% of domestic or foreign travel may be required.
