This position is located in the Exhibits Design Department, National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), Smithsonian Institution (SI). - Prepares and presents design concepts, orally, with drawings, and in writing, that show overall conceptual design, translating verbal theme statements or outlines into two- or three dimensional visual presentations. Conceives imaginative designs that meet demanding criteria of originality, accessibility, practicality, affordability, sustainability, ease of maintenance and production, and appropriate esthetics.
- Writes and administers a wide variety of design contracts using NMAI and Smithsonian approved procedures.
- Uses CAD design software, AutoCAD, and Vectorworks to create drawing packages and details for review by internal authorities and for use by fabrication shops.
- Develops, coordinates, and monitors the schedules, budgets, and material requirements for the design and production of the assigned exhibit projects. In consultation with others, will create, review, and approve exhibition timetables and budgets for short and long term projects.
