    This position serves as the General Engineer in the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Unit under the general supervision of the Assistant Chief Engineer with direction provided by the Chief, Maintenance and Operations Section. This position is located at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System in Oklahoma City, OK.

    • Provides professional engineering support to all maintenance and operations activities.
    • Trains M&O staff on technical issues and assist the Chief, M&O Section on the completion of technical and administrative issues regarding the M&O Unit operations.
    • Performs or directs surveys and investigations to establish baseline data necessary to initiate design.
    • Determines requirements, reconnaissance, location, and prepares designs, specifications and estimates.
    • Reviews or directs the review of plans, specifications, and analyses of design submitted by staff.
    • Prepares sketches or changes drawings and specifications solving the problem and incorporates these change documents into the contract performance documents.
    • Evaluates baseline data and incorporates salient factors into design considerations and solutions. Evaluates design objectives, performs complex technical calculations, and identifies most economical and efficient procedures for project design and performance considering all influences.
    • Prepares detailed cost estimates for use in obtaining maintenance funding and bid evaluation.
    • Reviews and evaluates shop drawings, samples and material certifications submitted by contractor forcontract and performance requirements, recommending approval, rejection or receipt. Oversees, directs, or administers the development, production, and/or maintenance of materials, components, equipment, or other systems or sub-systems.
    • Provides guidance, development and coordination for the planning, design, and oversight of maintenance projects. Plans specific objectives for the maintenance project.
    • Provides professional advice to improve such plans, specifications and analyses. Directs necessary changes and furnishes assistance required. Advises personnel on methods and procedures to be used in special studies on highly complex projects.
