The West Palm Beach VAMC is seeking a Gastroenterology Section Chief Tier 2 located in our Medicine Service. This position will oversee the day to day operations of the clinic.

The Gastroenterology Section Chief oversees the day to day clinical operations of the GI clinic. This position involves overseeing the administrative functions of the section, overseeing the residency program, evaluating and implementing new technologies as related to Gastroenterology, and overseeing the quality improvement program. The Section Chief plays an integral roll with identifying and addressing any deficiencies or areas of improvement and implementing corrective actions or procedures to address.
In addition to the administrative duties, the Section Chief performs clinical functions involving identifying symptoms of patients who present to the clinic that may be subtle or present with overlapping symptoms due to more complex diagnoses. Facilitating patient access to continuing medical care by appropriate referrals to other healthcare providers. Diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with gastrointestinal diseases according to acceptable methods and techniques. Directing the care of Gastroenterology patients to include the oversight of medical extenders, and other paraprofessional and administrative personnel when necessary. Performing chart reviews and coordinating with Hospitalists regarding patient care issues. Responsible for documenting patient care data in electronic medical records (CPRS), such as: history and physical exams, daily progress notes for inpatients, encounters for outpatients, consult notes, discharge summaries and instructions, transfer summaries and entering both new and renewal prescriptions. recommendations on improvement of work methods, organizational features, and the restructuring of positions to support the Gastroenterology services and quality patient care.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. May be required to be on-call on a rotating basis.
