    Summary

    The work requires knowledge of gardening procedures and skill in growing and tending lawns, flowers, shrubs, and trees. The work includes preparing soil for plants, seeding, thinning, transplanting, trimming, pruning, fertilizing, aerating, mulching, spraying, and dusting of grass, ground cover, flowers, shrubs, and trees. The incumbent maintains roads, grounds and walks by performing seasonal gardening tasks involving preparing planting areas.

    Responsibilities

    Utilizes hydraulic and mechanical devices to load and unload supplies from trucks. The employee operates large, complex riding lawn mowers (e.g., multiple and independently-controlled cutting decks) and/or specially designed riding mowers that operate on slopes. Equipment characteristics include single-function performance and components that are independently controlled through various hydraulic and/or mechanical devices.


    Operates specialized equipment to maintain grounds where working space and environment require constant attention (around trees, trenches, large pot holes, slopes, curbs, rocks, etc.). The incumbent uses hand tools, basic power tools, power/push (walk behind) mowers and riding type lawn mowers, such as Zero-Tum John Deere mowers. He or she moves furniture and office equipment to various locations.

    Assists with the removal of snow during winter operations. The incumbent removes ice and snow from roads, walks and stairs by using hand shovels, hand salters, powered (walk behind) snow blowers, and ride-on snow blowers, such as small tractors with attachments used for snow removal.

    Cleans parking facility by removing trash, debris, and anything that might be considered unsightly on a routine basis. The incumbent operates the Tennant Scrubber/Street Sweeper for thorough parking facility cleanings.

    Performs routine basic preventative maintenance on various machinery and equipment, including riding & walk-behind mowers, chainsaws to cut branches and small trees, trimmer/edgers, spraying equipment, such as IO gallons or less hand-pump sprayers, and walk-behind snow blowers.
