    Responsibilities

    This position is located in the Mental Health & Behavioral Service, located at the Wilkes-Barre, VAMC.The Physician Assistant should be experienced and highly skilled to deliver care and services to our Veterans. He or she will provide physical and mental health assessment in both in-patient and out-patient settings. He/she will complete history and physical examination, consultation on med-surge unit/CLC/ICU, crisis intervention, screening, intervention for substance abuse program and psychosocial rehabilitation program, rotating weekend/holiday coverage, will be working under direct supervision of physician/ACNS of Behavioral Mental Health Services.

    Incumbent will treat a wide spectrum of psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, substance abuse. Implement health promotion and prevention interventions, manage acute and chronic illnesses, assists patients in the attainment of optimal levels of functioning through rehabilitation. Provide care appropriate to the age needs of the patient served in assigned service area. This includes an understanding of the changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.

    Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with on-call duties required (weekends/holidays) as necessary.
