    This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC), Ecosystems & Aquaculture Division (EAD), Aquaculture & Sustainability Branch (ASB) with one vacancy in Milford, CT.

    As a Research Veterinary Medical Officer, you will perform the following duties:

    • Provide veterinary and health care, making diagnoses, prescribing medications and treatments, administering vaccinations, handling animal emergencies and wounds, and performing euthanasia and surgeries as necessary to marine and invertebrate animals.
    • Implement clinical and preventative programs for controlling disease in marine species.
    • Lead team-based research projects on sustainable aquaculture practices.
    • Educate researchers and technicians on the different effects of sustainable culture conditions due to nutritional requirements, environmental needs, and disease risks.
    • Create formal relationships with external partners, both commercial and academic, using Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) and grant funding programs.

    NOTE: These duties are described at the full performance level of the ZP-4, the ZP-3 is developmental leading to such performance.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Up to 10% of domestic and foreign travel may be required.
