WHAT DOES A CASH CLERK DO? The Cash Clerk performs the full range of remittance processing functions throughout the year. In this role, you will receive and process remittances in the form of cash, checks, money orders, and Federal Tax Deposits submitted either by mail or in person by Taxpayers. You will be involved in examining, marking, sorting, listing, encoding, balancing, and depositing remittance items and portions of accompanying returns, documents, or other records. While you will only be called upon to perform in one segment of the entire remittance processing cycle at a time, based on workload and the needs of the assigned organization, you will be trained and knowledgeable in the full range of remittance processing functions. Throughout the year, you may be called upon to perform in any of these functions and/or to serve as an original entry or key verification operator of a remittance processing device (RPD).
As a Cash Clerk you will:
- Accept and process payments in the form of cash, checks, money orders and/or Federal Tax Deposits from Taxpayers.
- Issue receipts if appropriate for full or partial payments received.
- Perform teller, cash or remittance processing, and deposit functions to include: listing, encoding, balancing, making deposits, examining, marking, sorting and ensuring all accompanying returns, documents, or other records are included in final transactions.
