EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position, you will perform emergency management work including managing and coordinating all Federal emergency management response operations, response planning and integration of Federal, State, local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental organizations, and private sector disaster programs.
Typical assignments include:
- Maintains the Operation Center’s continuous state of readiness for implementing and executing procedures responding to natural or man-made disasters, national security events or emergencies, and other all-hazards situations.
- Monitors emerging events and incidents and conducts the alerting and notification of appropriate FEMA response teams and inter-agency partners.
- Provides time-critical warning information to state and local emergency managers via FEMA warning systems.
- Operates, tests and exercises a multitude of communications and computer systems that support the FEMA Operation Center (FOC) alert and notification mission; prepares and conducts briefings to senior leadership from HQ FEMA and senior executives from agencies throughout the Executive Branch.
- Supports the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC) and DHS National Operations (NOC) and provides immediate backup for key MWEOC and NOC functions.
