    A successful candidate in this position will serve as a Waste Certification Specialist with the National TRU Program (NTP) Compliance Division (NCD) in the Office of the National TRU Program (ONTP) for the CBFO reporting to the NCD Director.

    As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will:

    • Oversee the following functional areas: waste characterization/certification (WIPP Hazardous Waste Facility Permit [HWFP] Waste Analysis Plan [WAP] and 40CFR191/194 requirements), transportation (applicable Nuclear Regulatory Commission [NRC] and Department of Transportation [DOT] regulations), and ODE orders.

    • Ensure TRU waste generator/storage sites meet WIPP acceptance standards and criteria and are ready to ship TRU waste to WIPP including functions independently as a senior-level decision-maker; establishes and maintains a schedule of TRU waste generator/storage site certification activities;

    • Evaluate CBFO-certified programs and TRU waste generator sites performance toward NTP mission accomplishments in terms of compliance with applicable NTP-related regulations and requirements.
    • Ensure costs, schedules, and scope for CCP are reasonable and represent a value to the Government.

    • Represent DOE and CBFO, as a key technical authority in CCP operations, at host sites, meetings and conferences with other Federal and State agencies, private industry, and other groups to help resolve different viewpoints regarding key management and planning issues and to ensure TRU waste management objectives are achieved.

    • Prepares and presents recurring and special operational/status reports, including accomplishments, on activities and issues associated with NTP safety and compliance.
