    This announcement is for 9 positions located on the Allegheny, Chequamegon-Nicolet, Huron-Manistee, and Wayne National Forests. See additional information for location, bargaining unit and contact information.

    These positions will be filled as a GS-5 position with Promotional Potential to the GS-6. The positions wlll be 0462 Forestry Technicians with primary duties in Timber Sale preparation.

    • Independently apply silvicultural prescriptions and marking guides to designate harvest timber.
    • Independently apply instructions issued in a cruise plan.
    • Take and record tree measurements, assess quality, and determine defect
    • Prepare and enter cruise data into computer for processing.
    • Observe and report areas of possible archeological significance, and sightings of sensitive, threatened, or endangered wildlife species.
    • Traverse harvest unit boundaries, road locations, and determine area.
    • Participate in other aspects of resource management support work, such as recreation, maintenance, silviculture, tree planting, etc.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Occasional travel for meetings and/or training may be required.
