    The Robert J. Dole VAMC is seeking to fill a full time Nurse Practitioner in Hays, Kansas.
    The APRN Manages the care of acutely ill and chronically ill adult and geriatric patients. Functions as a team member,
    caring for outpatients in the Primary Care CBOC clinic in Hutchinson Kansas.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 0800 to 1630.

    Duties include but are not limited to the following:
    - Apply, remove and change dressings or bandages
    - Biopsy of skin lesions
    - Complete History and Physical examinations and progress notes for new and established patients
    - Complete pre-op clearances
    - Counsel and instruct patient and significant others as appropriate
    - Cryosurgical removal of benign lesions, excluding melanoma
    - Direct care as specified by medical staff approved protocols
    - Educate and counsel patients covering such things as health status, test results, disease processes and discharge
    - Foot care procedures such as callus removal, toenail care, etc.
    - Immobilize (spine, long bone, soft tissue) and transport
    - Incision and drainage of simple abscesses
    - Initiate referral to appropriate physician or other healthcare professional for problems that exceed the APRN's
    - Manage epistaxis
    - Obtain and record medical/social history and perform physical examinations including rectal and pelvic
    examinations as indicated
    - Order diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities such as laboratory tests, medications, treatments, x-ray, EKG,
    referrals, etc.
    - Order and interpret electrocardiograms with immediate second reading by a physician
    - Order and perform initial interpretations of simple plain x-ray films with second reading by a physician (or
    - Perform indirect laryngoscopy
    - Perform simple laceration repair which does not enter a body cavity or involve tendon, nerve, or joint space, may
    involve the use of local anesthetics
    - Perform urinary bladder catheterization (short-term and indwelling) e.g., coude, foley
    - Perform venous punctures for blood sampling, cultures and IV catheterization
    - Perform wound debridement and general care for superficial/minor wounds
    - Removal of foreign body
    - Write progress notes
