This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
The incumbent will create mass spectral reference libraries of seized drugs/illicit substances: Measurement and interpretation of mass spectra generated by gas-chromatography electron-ionization mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and by liquid chromatography electrospray-ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS). When necessary, development of novel sample preparation and analytical methods. S/he will work on the extraction of spectra from raw data, and in the evaluation of spectra to determine whether they are of sufficient reliability to be included in the NIST Mass Spectral Reference Libraries.
Occasional travel - Occasional travel consisting of presenting research results at scientific conferences within the United States several times per year with each trip lasting up to 1 week.
