This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Award amount is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation and final approval by the Under Secretary for Health or designated official.
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) has prescriptive authority and provides care for an identified patient panel independently or in collaboration with a physician. Core functions include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic care problems, performing adult care check-ups, and prescribing medication and treatments. The APRN teaches health promotion and disease prevention to patients. Essential responsibilities include performing diagnostic mental health evaluations, ordering relevant diagnostic studies, writing orders and prescriptions in accordance with Federal and State law, maintaining patient database, following patients for medication checks, writing treatment plans, handling psychiatric emergencies, working in the primary care mental health walk-in clinic and maintaining continuity of care. Additional privileges may be granted based on a request for and approval of such privileges through the Credentialing and Privileging process ( Chief of Staffs Office), consistent with the laws of the state where the APRN is licensed and related to their role. The APRN practicing in the expanded role utilizes advanced skills in screening, problem identification and clarification, treatment planning and implementation of the plan, including provision of individual and group therapy. The incumbent works in collaboration with other members of the mental health and primary care teams to improve the quality of care delivered to the Veteran.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
