    Responsibilities

    The individual selected for the Technical Information Specialist (Searcher) position will perform the following duties:

    • Performs detailed engineering, scientific, and real world industrial process online searching in various commercial databases and/or in-house search systems in chemical and/or biotechnology including a) polymers, organic and inorganic chemistry or b) biochemistry, biomedical science and organic and inorganic chemistry.
    • Provides authoritative information and research on a wide range of reference questions. Uses independent judgment to select from a wide range of available resources.
    • Identifies prior art search tools and critically evaluates retrieved search results.
    • Provides advice, assistance and training to staff, examiners, or others in use of the special tools and resources of the USPTO and the STIC organization.
    • Develops and delivers trainings and presentations to technical staff to introduce USPTO’s prior art resources and search tools.
    • Writes technical reports/documents.
