    This position is responsible for maintaining healthy high performance turf on the National Mall using advanced training in the science, theories, concepts, methods and techniques of turf grass management, supervising a staff of full-time and seasonal, workforce coordinating with permit and event operations.

    • Plan and manage all personnel and non-personnel turf maintenance and management services to include preventive maintenance, renovations, rehabilitations, and establishment of new turf systems.
    • Provide leadership and guidance in grounds care, fertilization, integrated pest management, horticulture, gardening, and event management.
    • Develop new and/or unique approaches and techniques to achieve program completion.
    • Use professional turfgrass standards to determine effectiveness of landscape management operations and maintenance requirements.
    • Implement preventative and ongoing maintenance schedules based upon type of turf, soil, irrigation, and drainage, as well as conditions related to soil nutrient, fungus, pests, etc.
    • Provide oversight for planning for prevention of damage from events, manage costs for restoration activities from events, and maintain detailed data and documentation for cost recovery.
    • Use resource protection methods and seeks measures to reduce and mitigate a wide variety of impacts.
    • Provide oversight to turf and soil vulnerability and advise on relocation or adjustments to event duration, setup and tear down.
    • Work as a team member to ensure that turf maintenance interfaces seemlessly with overall park objectives.
    • Supervise grounds maintenance crews.
    • Manage landscape and project contractors from project inception to completion.
