    EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

    In this position, you will provide expert level technical and operational support and guidance to the agency relating to a variety of IT functions which includes identifying, integrating and implementing technical capabilities, tools, schemes, standards, best practices, and training requirements necessary to meet DHS/FEMA mission objectives and future agency IT requirements. Typical assignments include:

    • Planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating directorate activities requiring an expertise and broad scope of knowledge of command and control, communications, and FEMA IT requirements for internal and external customers
    • Conducting business process reengineering and ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices
    • Working closely with, and receiving support from, all levels of government to ensure effective communications during emergency/disaster events
    • Articulating the agency’s position based on expert knowledge of the interrelationships of the complex management systems governing funding, prioritization, resourcing, and mission execution.
    • Assigning work to lower level supervisors and/or employees, establishing broad project goals and priorities, and evaluating results through formal reviews, briefings, reports and personal observation
    • Developing budget estimates, assessing long-term needs and recommending appropriate solutions
