Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Apply fish health and disease principles and concepts to the handling and management of all life stages, including broodstock, eggs, fry, and fingerlings
- Plan and direct fish cultural operations and related work schedules to meet broodstock production goals

Possess a Bachelor's Degree with a major in a biological science that includes the following course work: 1) at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND 2) at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences subjects such as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects. Excess course work in aquatic subjects may be used to meet this requirement when appropriate. Transcripts MUST be submitted to document your educational accomplishments, OR
Possess a combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through appropriate field. In addition to courses that involve analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. Transcripts MUST be submitted to document your educational accomplishments.
Possess at least one year of specialized experience performing the work of a Fish Biologist.
This experience is equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: experience supervising and/or training others in all aspects of cold water fish culture with respect to native salmonids of the Southwest; experience in initiating and completing complex brood stock management actions to ensure successful production of genetically sound stocks; developing and presenting management recommendations for a wide range of fish species in intensive culture systems and stocking scenarios; directing the work of diverse professional and wage grade staff; conducting a variety of management actions to produce, rear, and stock healthy fish for both recreation and population restoration efforts; conducting a variety of feeding and treatment scenarios to maintain all life stages of fish species under culture; and experience planning, organizing, and conduction administrative functions such as property management, budget and finance, procurement, and safety.

- Knowledge and experience in captive rearing, propagation, distribution and coordination of a variety of imperiled and recreational aquatic species
