    Responsibilities

    This position is located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service, Albany VA Medical Center. This position provides support to the activities within the Diagnostics & Therapeutics Service Line. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the service.

    The speech-language pathologist at this level plans, conducts, and coordinates all aspects of diagnostic assessments and evaluations and therapeutic and rehabilitative services for speech, language, voice, fluency, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. The speech-language pathologist at this grade level must demonstrate professional knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range of theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of speech-language pathology to a wide range of populations. The incumbent is an independent licensed practitioner and is considered to be at the full performance level.

    o Consults with physicians and other health care practitioners related to diagnostic evaluation and treatment.
    o Has knowledge of speech-language pathology instrumentation.
    o Conducts assessments, provides treatment interventions, and provides consultation to other health care professionals.
    o Incorporates new clinical procedures sufficient to perform clinical services independently.
    o Develops coherent treatment strategies.
    o Uses a wide range of knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range theories, principles, and methodologies in the practice of speech-language pathology to a wide range of populations.
