The Supervisory Chemical Incident Investigator position is located in the Office of Investigations. The incumbent serves as the supervisor of experts in industrial chemical safety and nationwide incident investigation and analysis of major incidents involving the accidental release of hazardous materials and, developing and presenting reports with safety recommendations for adopting by the Board.Learn more about this agency
- Directs and supervises a team of investigators responsible for organizing, managing and coordinating the investigation and analysis of major incidents involving the accidental release of hazardous materials.
- Responsible for writing, developing and presenting investigative reports.
- Provides guidance and technical direction to staff on matters of policy, project integration, funding and schedules.
- Develops performance standards and evaluates work performance.
50% or less - You may be expected to travel for this position.

QualificationsAt the GS-15 level, you must meet the following qualification:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and mastery of the advanced principles, concepts, theories and practices of industrial chemical incident investigation including site security, evidence and data collection, witness interview, and follow-up activities.
2. Proven advance knowledge of chemical production operations, industrial chemical/petroleum safety programs, and process safety management programs in the private sector.
3. Demonstrate the ability to lead and direct a highly technical staff in a program area with nationwide impact.
This position contains a selective placement factor (SPF) that is part of the minimum requirement of the position. If you do not meet the SPF, you are ineligible for further consideration.
The SPF for this position is:
Leads and manages complex technical projects at a private sector chemical plant and/or oil refinery or similar facility.
