    The incumbent will serve as a primary coordinator, consultant and evaluator regarding the administration of Merchant Marine Credentialing Examinations by the National Maritime Center and its 17 Regional Examination Centers. Incumbent will manage the development and revision of deck examinations for both Merchant Marine Officers and Ratings and associated publications. Using subject matter expertise gained through extensive industry experience, the incumbent will develop, and critique the development work of others, questions for deck examinations in compliance with regulation and policy. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

    • Developing and analyzing deck examinations for compliance with regulatory requirements and validity.
    • Developing, analyzing, evaluating, and improving the effectiveness of work methods and procedures including, organizations, budget, manpower utilization, distribution of work assignments, and management controls.
    • Researching technical and professional publications, manufacturer’s instruction manuals, international treaties and conventions, and U.S. legal references.
    • Acting as a liaison with the maritime industry, maritime academies, training institutions, and Coast Guard field units.
    • Preparing authoritative and explicit replies to government agencies and the general public on all matters concerning the regulations, policies and other interpretive aspects of licensing, training and examination of maritime personnel.
