    Salary: $27,030 (Step 01) to $35,139 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

    As a Biological Science Aid within the Southwest Biological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

    -Assists in collecting, sorting and organizing samples.

    -Performs laboratory duties such as cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing glassware and other laboratory equipment.

    -Follows standard operating procedures to determine species. density and distribution of invertebrate populations.

    -Measures and makes laboratory solutions.  Operates pH meter, spectrophotometer, electronic balance to determine chemical and physical characteristics of compounds and solutions.  Records data.

    -Operates a government motor vehicle as an incidental driver.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    Work requires some physical exertion such as standing for long periods of time, walking, stooping, bending, and carrying light loads.  The work environment varies from laboratory setting to field sites.  The work involves moderate risks, discomfort, and unpleasantness such as high noise levels, chemical, deep freezers, etc.
