    The incumbent will conduct independent and team research to characterize the interacting effects of genetics, environment and management on physical and genetic responses of sugar beet.

    • Conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory research to determine the effects of genetics, environment and management on sugar beet sucrose yield during production and sucrose loss during storage.
    • Characterize sugar beet morphological, physiological, biochemical and genetic responses to pathogens, pests and abiotic stresses.
    • Investigate soil biology, environment and management effects on physiological and biochemical responses in sugar beet plants.
    • Develop and evaluate practices that improve sugar beet production and reduce sucrose losses in storage.
    • Report research results in appropriate peer-reviewed and trade journals.
    • Interact with other scientists, producers, and the sugar beet industry to transfer appropriate technologies and develop research studies.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.
