    The incumbent is assigned to the Prosthetics Service at the Long Beach Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center. Performs independently, repairing, fabricating, and fitting of orthotic appliances.

    • Performs independently, fitting fabricating of orthotic appliances such as, but not limited to, lumbo-sacral supports, prosthetic socks and sheaths, elbow and ankle supports, elastic support hose, hand splints, soft knee braces, neck collars, abdominal binders, trusses, and non-custom in-depth shoes.
    • Takes measurement of body and limb segments appropriate to the item being fit, and select an off the shelf item, sized appropriately with appropriate model or design.
    • Repairs simple orthotic/prosthetic, such as repairs to cuffs, suspension straps, shoes, using a wide variety of materials.
    • Assists the Orthotic Lab personnel putting orthotic components together. This may involve placing sockets, feet and knees on prosthetic pylons according to instruction.
    • authorizes and prepares routine and complex purchase orders for a wide variety of prosthetic and orthotic devices, medical supplies and durable medical equipment.
    • Ability to read and understand prescriptions and orthotic procedures to undertake the fitting of orthotic appliances.
    • Knowledge of a wide variety of standard and custom medical equipment, prosthetic and orthotic appliances.
