    The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has an immediate need to employ residents of Biloxi, MS and surrounding areas as temporary local hires to assist with disaster response and recovery efforts. Local hire employees are local residents who aid in the recovery of the community and help their fellow citizens in the recovery process.     Responsibilities

    A Local Hire employee’s term of employment is 120 days. Local Hire appointments may be extended, in 120 day increments, for a maximum 365 day appointment, based on the needs of the disaster. 

    This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Financial Management Division, FEMA Finance Center. The Travel Specialist is responsible for providing travel claim services to deployed personnel.

    Typical assignments include:

    • Receiving, reviewing and processing a wide variety of documents such as travel authorizations or obligations, and travel voucher payments
    • Ensuring documentation is accurate and complete, verifying funds are available against obligation documents, and processing/posting transactions.
    • Reviewing accounts in the travel and accounting systems to ensure individual transaction agree with and are supported by documentation, and that transactions are processed according to established procedures.
    • Providing customer service by phone and email to assist FEMA Travelers with travel reservations, travel authorizations or travel vouchers and/or responding to travel-related inquiries from FEMA travelers in order to support response to emergency disaster operations.
