The following are a few duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. The incumbent will assist in:
-Contacts the appropriate office to obtain administrative files; reviews files and researches legal issues.
-Draft various motions for filing with the court.
-Drafts formal and informal discovery for attorney review.
-Monitors all deadlines imposed by statute, the courts, and office procedures.
-Drafts counsel settlement memorandum for manager approval.
-Assist attorneys in preparing cases for trial, including the maintenance and compilation of trial exhibits.
-Closes cases taking into account the statute of limitations and office procedures.
-Assists attorneys with refund litigation cases.
-Drafts defense letters in non-complex cases general litigation cases.
-Assists in identifying and the hiring of expert witnesses.
-Assists with summons enforcement.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A 1-year probationary period is required.

Prior to entrance on duty or receipt of an official job offer, a selectee must receive favorable results for fingerprints and tax clearance for the last three years tax returns filed.
- A background security investigation, including a tax audit, will be initiated prior to appointment. After entrance on duty, failure to successfully meet the background investigation and favorable adjudication requirements may be grounds for termination.
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes: writing opinions, legal memoranda, litigation reports, discovery requests, and affidavits; drafting settlement agreements; assisting in the preparation of paperwork necessary for processing and completion of the case; assisting the attorney in the presentation of the case; conducting information collection and researching statutes and precedents. You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
GS:09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

GS-9: You must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks. (Time-in-grade requirement).
