The Utility Systems Operator (USO) is assigned to the Energy Center which is part of Facilities Management Service. The USO is responsible for safe operation of the Boiler/Combined Heating and Power (CHP) Plant, including maintenance and repair. Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Repairs boilers generators & associated equipment
- Determine adjustments with meters & gauges
- Use electronic controls in conjunction with meters and gauges to determine adjustments of corrections necessary for proper operations.
- Complete work in accordance with specifications and use variety of standard mechanical and basic electrical process.
- Through the use of manual or automatic controls or control systems, is capable of monitoring, adjusting, and controlling all phases of plant operations.
Based on the nature of this position, hours may be rotated or extended to include nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements: Work is frequently in confined areas in and around boilers and support equipment. The work requires moderate to strenuous effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching. Frequent lifting and carry of parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally items over 40 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. Work will be indoors and occasionally working outdoors for short periods of time where they are subject to weather conditions. Must be able to do Heavy lifting (45 pounds), Heavy Carrying (45 Pounds), Straight Pulling (1hour), Pushing (1Hour), reaching over shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking/standing (8 hours), crawling/kneeling/repeat bending (1 hour), climbing with use of arms and legs, both legs required, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability.
