Performs basic and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, structures, and related utilities. Assists higher graded maintenance workers and/or tradesmen in the performance of their work. Duties require a variety of skills such as basic demolition, carpentry, painting, roofing, masonry, and plumbing work. Erects and disassembles scaffolding and operates basic power tools. Practices all safety rules and regulations, utilizing all required PPE's and safety equipment.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

The Calumet area has a population of approximately 6, 000 people with community amenities including hospital, school and shopping services. The Cities of Houghton and Hancock are located approximately 12 miles south and both are full service .communities. Higher education facilities are available at Michigan Technological University in Houghton and Finlandia University in Hancock. Park housing is not available.
