    This position will serve two critical roles: a Staff Scientist within the Social Behavioral Research Branch within the NHGRI Intramural Research Program and as a Senior Advisor to the NHGRI Director. As a Staff Scientist, you will conduct research into the implementation of genomic medicine in communities. As a Senior Advisor, you will evaluate NHGRI's efforts in scientific communication, outreach and engagement.

    • Designs and participates in or leads quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods research studies on the factors influencing community engagement with genetics/genomics;
    • Conducts research into the implementation of genomic medicine in communities;
    • Develops novel scientific communication materials and methods, intended to improve genomic literacy and facilitate genomic medicine;
    • Educates population and community groups on genomic risk and solicits feedback on the barriers to implementation of risk scores;
    • Serves as a key Senior Advisor to the NHGRI Director on a range of important topics, with particular emphasis on the evaluation of the Institute's efforts in scientific communication, outreach, and engagement;
    • Assesses program feasibility and resource distribution decisions and orchestrates the development of special initiative outcomes, delivery timetables, and assessment instruments; and
    • Identifies barriers to the use of genomics in research, healthcare, and society.
