    The Anesthesia Service is a collegial department consisting of Anesthesiologists and CRNAs, with anesthesia residents, medical students and SRNAs that rotate through the department.
    The Anesthesia Service offers the full range of perioperative care. This includes extensive participation in
    preoperative optimization of surgical patients; intraoperative clinical pathways including ERAS; postoperative management including participation in care in the surgical intensive care unit; and acute and chronic pain management services.
    The position will involve working in the operating room as an anesthesiologist.Ability to perform anesthesia for cardiac surgery cases and other major surgical cases is preferred.
    This also requires in hospital night coverage shifts.Duties on the night shift include operating room anesthesia, covering airway emergencies in the hospital, and cross coverage in the surgical intensive care unit for urgent or emergent situations.
    The position involves mainly CRNA/resident supervision with some opportunity to perform your own cases. The anesthesia performed here is cooperative and friendly,and our mission is to provide world class anesthetic care to our nation's veterans. There is no OB, trauma or pediatrics, but otherwise a variety of interesting and challenging cases.
    The NMVAHCS serves as the tertiary referral center for New Mexico, eastern Arizona and southern Colorado.
    The types of procedures performed here include, but are not limited to, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery,
    general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, urological and neurological procedures with occasional sedation for GI and interventional radiology. An acute pain service is also included. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) rotations may be required There are opportunities to perform as much regional anesthesia, including ultrasound-guided techniques, as the candidate wishes as well as TEE. Patient care, research, and teaching opportunities are available.
    The NMVAHCS has an academic affiliation with the University of New Mexico. This position has the possibility
    of obtaining a clinical appointment at the University of New Mexico. The position allows time for academic study
    and responsibilities.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 0630-1500 with rotating in-house evening/weekend/holiday in hospital shifts on a regular basis.
