The Risk Manager (RM) provides substantial and continuous responsibility for the oversight, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the Risk Management Program. The RM is responsible for influencing the organizational culture to provide safe, quality healthcare to our veteran population. He/she is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining an organizational Risk Management Program to the employees that contribute to patient care and activities within the Medical Center.

The Risk Manager demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving patient care services through collaborative strategies with others. He/she executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex external accreditation and risk management issues. He/she is responsible for coordinating the Manchester VA's Risk Management/Peer Review Program. He/she provides direct staff support to Front Line Staff, Service Chiefs and others in the development, implementation and coordination of the Risk Management Program. Serves as a resource in risk management, interpretation of external standards assisting in making recommendations to Service Chiefs, Chief of Staff and Medical Center Leadership and communicating approved recommendations to appropriate personnel. Shares unique knowledge and clinical expertise regarding: Peer Review, Tort Claim Management, Disclosure of Adverse Events, Interpretation of applicable memoranda, handbooks and directives relating to Risk Management issues, External standards interpretation, Development of action plans, and, Evaluation of the effectiveness of such plans. Independently prepares reports and data to assure resources are efficiently and effectively used in the provision of quality care for the patient population. He/she analyzes data and reports to identify the need for change, minimize risk, and ensure effectiveness of clinical improvements. The Risk Manager trends complex data related to Risk Management collaborating with the Chief of Quality Management and Patient Safety to ensure timely follow-up and investigation of sentinel events, and facilitates the development and implementation of action plans designed to prevent re-occurrence.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with some flex tours and alternative tours available after orientation completed.
