    This position is part of the Arizona Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office. As a Fish Biologist, you will perform a wide variety of duties in support of Office programs.

    This is a Term appointment, not-to-exceed 13 months, which can be extended for a total appointment of 4 years.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Apply knowledge of field fishery sampling techniques including but not limited to: fish and macro-invertebrate identification, raft mounted and backpack electrofishing, seining, experimental gill and trammel netting, and various fish marking techniques
    • Perform stream renovation projects, population monitoring, fish, invertebrate, and other aquatic species identification, population surveys and sampling in multiple river and spring systems
    • Organize and carry out investigations/management studies, analyzing data and presenting its analysis together with recommendations to the agency with overall management responsibility for the resources
    • Act as a representative at interagency planning sessions and other meetings pertaining to fisheries management, endangered species, wetlands, and other natural resources issues

    Physical Demands:

    Work requires long periods of standing, walking, or riding horses over rough terrain; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, or similar activities. Work may also include frequent lifting of moderately heavy items, such as equipment and samples that weigh less than 50 pounds.

    Work Environment:

    Work includes both office and outdoor locations. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes are encountered in outdoor work.

    The employee is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow workers, or property with which entrusted, and to take corrective action to eliminate any hazards.

    Travel Required

    25% or less - You may be expected to travel for this position.
