    The National Bio and Agro- Defense Facility (NBAF), USDA, located in Manhattan, KS, is a state-of-the art biocantainment facility for the diagnosis and study of foreign animal, emerging, and zoonotic (transmitted from animals to human) diseases that threaten U.S. animal, agriculture and public health.

    Responsibilities

    • Participates with Biorick Manager in the coordination of overall NBAF biorisk and biosafety programs and associated activities.
    • Develops, evaluates and implements comprehensive biosafety, biocontainment, and biosecurity programs, incorporating Federal, State and local regulations, departmental policies, agency programs and policies.
    • Develops policy, sets goals and objectives, and assesses overall program effectiveness for the NBAF biosafety programs in consultation with supervisor.
    • Provide counsel and advice concerning the execution of policies and functions, and ensuring compliance with relevant statutory, regulatory and policy requirements governing both program activities and biosafety and biocontainment programs.
    • Directs the biosafety staff and NBAF personnel engaged in work with biohazardous agents utilizing appropriate risk assessment and risk mitigation methodologies and procedures.
    • Provide technical and administrative supervision to a professional and technical staff recognized for their professional and technical competence.
    • Develop and/or edit position descriptions, making candidate selections for positions, assigning duties, reviewing work, approving/ disapproving leave and evaluating performance.
