NOTE: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. Preferred Experience: U.S. Board Certified in Family Practice or Internal Medicine and three years of experience in management is highly desirable.
Description:
The Chief will manage the full-time and part-time physicians and nurse practitioners delivering outpatient primary care in a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model in all Primary Care clinics and for working closely with Mental Health Service Line to incorporate "Primary Care Mental Health Integration" (PCMHI) staff in each primary care area. The Chief of Primary Care will also serve as a primary care provider for a relevant panel of Veterans. The Chief will serve as medical center representative to a regional (VISN) Primary Care Service Line with colleagues and support throughout the 6 New England states. Extensive experience in Internal Medicine or Family Practice with management responsibilities is required. The employee shall participate in activities that are designated to meet all relevant requirements, including those of the Joint Commission and other accredited agencies. The incumbent will be required to maintain current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certifications. Chief, Primary Care Service Line is a management position with responsibilities for all aspects of delivery of care for the department. Administrative functions my include evaluation and approval/disapproval of clinical consultative services for non-VA care, which are shared by the Chief of Staff. The incumbent is responsible for the overall performance of the Primary Care Service Line, is expected to carry a small panel size necessary to maintain clinical proficiency as determined by the Chief of Staff. He/She is a key member of the clinical leadership team and reports directly to the Chief of Staff. The incumbent is responsible to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered in a resource efficient manner. Responsibilities include the complete range of resource management including position management and budgeting. The successful candidate should possess excellent leadership skills and should be knowledgeable and proficient with VA performance measures and the principles of system redesign, including implementation and promotion of outpatient clinic access and hospital flow. The service chief is expected to be available during the work week and for after hours duties including nights, weekends, and holidays. However, there is no scheduled call schedule for primary care providers.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; 4 to 5 Saturdays per year for clinic may be required.
