    Utilizes wildland fire behavior knowledge and firefighting experience to direct ground and aviation resources to accomplish suppression goals. Utilizes knowledge of interagency policies and agreements to make efficient and effective use of multiple types of interagency wildland fire suppression resources with varying capabilities.

    Provides protection for life, property, and resources. Select strategies and tactics to ensure safe operations for assigned resources. Recognize potential hazardous situations and provides operation briefings. Provides technical guidance for fuels, fire preparedness, prevention, fire suppression and related activities. Liaison for the coordination of fuels, fire management and planning activities with other agencies, institutions, groups, and individuals.  Develop, acquire, and consolidate interagency data and ensure the quality of all data.

    Physical Requirements: The work is normally sedentary. However, field work is evaluated as arduous and the duties include demands for strenuous activities in emergencies under adverse environmental conditions and over extended periods of time. The incumbent is faced with emergency situations at all hours and must respond quickly. The position may require long shifts or multi-day assignments under primitive living conditions during emergencies. During the fire season, extended fire assignments away from the unit may be required under very stressful conditions.

    Work Environment: Office conditions require long periods of sitting, working with computers and general lifting, bending and reaching. Field conditions involve the employee being exposed to noise, dust, heat, weather, aircraft turbulence and the hazards of firefighting such as heat, smoke, and fire behavior. Protective clothing and equipment is required in hazardous environments. The incumbent must exercise a variety of safety practices and precautions for their own and others' well-being.

    25% or less - This position requires frequent field work.
