    This position serves as the Chief Historical Architect for the Park Historic Structures and Cultural Landscapes (PHSCL) Program within the Park Programs and National Heritage Area Division of the Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Sciences (CRPS) Directorate pf the Washington D.C. Office of the National Park Service.

    Responsibilities

    As a Interdisciplinary, Chief Historical Architect you will:

    • Present information in orally using different techniques to effectively communication complex data and analysis to a wide range of audiences, from senior level management to outside stakeholders.
    • Serve as the program manager to a multi-disciplinary team performing the full range of supervisory duties.
    • Set clear performance expectations for staff, monitors progress, and rewards high performance.
    • Ensures that ethics, conduct, and disciplinary issues are dealt with fairly and in an unbiased manner to guarantee staff can have a workplace free from harassment and/or hostility.
    • Develop and manages a national program of historic structures and cultural landscape management for both formal and vernacular structures and landscapes.
    • Oversee program needs, support to regions and parks and develops program goal priorities.
    • Provide professional review and assessment of master plans, comprehensive designs, and special studies for accuracy and compliance with historic preservation policies, guidelines, laws and regulations as they relate to historic structures and cultural landscapes.
    • Recommend actions and specifications required to stabilize, correct, improve, or enhance historic site conditions.
    • Oversee the provision of expert technical advice on techniques and methods for major physical treatment, maintenance and management of park historic structures and cultural landscapes to a varied audience.
    • Provide guidance to regional and park staff to develop a "Community of Practice" among historic structures and cultural landscape professionals.
    • Serve on national work groups to develop policies and procedures to guide the Department's historic structures and cultural landscape programs towards improved maintenance and preservation.
    • Monitor the obligation, use, and expenditures of allotted funds throughout the fiscal year and sets priorities using a cost benefit approach.
    • Develop Service-wide training for staff at a variety of levels to further the goals of heightened maintenance and preservation of historic structures and cultural landscapes.
    • Support the efforts of Vanishing Treasures Program, the Olmstead Center and other entities to create and implement hands-on preservation training opportunities applicable to historic structures and cultural landscapes.
