This position is located in the Office of Accident Investigation and Prevention (AVP) within the FAA's Office of Aviation Safety (AVS). The incumbent serves as an Operational Safety Analyst in the Integrated Safety Teams Branch (AVP-230) in the Safety Analytical Services Division. Acts as principal technical specialist for large work activities. Performs multiple, varying and complex work assignments under the minimal direction of a manager or project/program manager.
Assignments frequently require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines. Typical assignments may include: Leading the organization and execution of key investigative analysis and safety performance assessment activities of government-industry collaborative safety teams compromised of FAA, representatives of domestic and international airlines, manufacturers, employee groups, air traffic organizations, and others key stakeholders of the aviation community.
Defines, organizes, and assigns resources to accomplish organizational objectives. Allocates resources to accomplish large work activities within established schedules. Leads activities associated with analysis of safety data using investigative/trending techniques to identify emerging and changing risks, development of mitigation's strategies, and monitoring the effectiveness of implemented actions.
Performs major activities supporting the implementation of key government and industry collaborative initiatives to advance aviation safety in the National Airspace System (NAS).
Broad policies and objectives provide general guidance for addressing issues, but allow considerable discretion to develop new and innovative approaches. Draws on experience to solve unusual problems and may create new solutions and policy interpretations as the situation requires: Applies aviation experience and technical knowledge, either as an individual contributor or a member of a team, to plan and accomplish projects including investigating and analyzing multiple data sources, and providing technical guidance and leadership.
Contacts are internal and external. Coordinates significant technical matters with representatives of external organizations. Serves as the technical point of contact on these projects and programs, and communicates information to senior FAA management, the aviation and aerospace industries, and other external parties.
Manages and contributes to the drafting, coordination, editing, and distribution of technical safety reports for approval by senior leadership and aviation stakeholders. Work is reviewed rarely, typically though status reports and at project completion, to ensure technical compliance and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity.
Prepares and presents briefings to communicate safety information to broad audiences of aviation safety professionals, to include the support of and participation in both national and international forums convened to strengthen and advance aviation safety. Work activities typically impact directly on the objectives of one or more major subdivisions or LOB's/SO's and may impact on the objectives of the FAA. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
