    Gastroenterology Chief
    The preferred Physician (Chief of Gastroenterology) will be an established, funded investigator. The candidate will have board eligibility/certification; credentials sufficient for academic appointment to the University of New Mexico (UNM), Department of Medicine; qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Medicine; and possess leadership and administrative experience sufficient to lead the Gastroenterology Division. Active basic and clinical research in the Division includes programs in epithelial biology, intestinal pathogens, gut microbiome, liver diseases, inflammatory bowel disease and interventional endoscopy. As the Chief of Gastroenterology, you will be expected to provide comprehensive Gastroenterology services to Veterans, along with supervisory oversight to the Gastroenterology Section. Candidates must have clinical expertise in hepatology or therapeutic endoscopy. The candidate will provide services such as examinations, consultation services related to gastroenterology or hepatology, management of patients with current treatment regiment, and admission status as necessary. Attendance is required to gastroenterology team meetings, Medicine Service meetings, and meetings with UNM Department of Internal Medicine. You may be asked to serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, assist our facility in meeting established performance measures in the area of gastroenterology. In this position, you will be responsible for the training of gastroenterology fellows, residents and medical students.
    • New Mexico Veterans Healthcare System has a large clinical GI program with excellent support for clinical investigation.
    • Dynamic leader with academic expertise, clinical excellence, and expertise in developing and conducting clinical research.
    • Supervision of over 5 GI Physician, 3 Physician extenders and duty coordinators, as well as fellows in the GI training programs;
    • Programmatic oversight of the GI procedural laboratory, the GI outpatient clinic and the GI inpatient consult service.
    Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday & Weekends, Days/Evenings/Nights- 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Other Shifts, as needed (Rotating Shifts).
