    Summary

    As a Social Worker you will serve on a multidisciplinary team located in the community-based Vet Center. You will work in cooperative collaboration with other team members, professionals, volunteers and others in VA facilities and community agencies to help Veterans recognize and resolve their problems and needs.

    Responsibilities

    This announcement is open to current, permanent employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs and other federal agencies. If you do not meet this requirement, in order to be considered you must apply under announcement number CBEJ-10489129-19-AES.

    The ideal candidate possesses a high degree of clinical skill, including the unique skills needed to work with Veterans and their significant others. You must possess the capability to perform administrative tasks required in the community-based office of a program with a unique administrative structure and a variety of formal and informal working relationships with a wide range of VA facilities and community organizations.

    • Completes a psycho-social assessment and military history within the first three sessions with a patient.
    • Develops a unique treatment plan that reflects a course of therapeutic intervention that will address the needs identified in the assessment.
    • Maintains and exercises an effective resource data base that is used to address the needs of a client, which may be better served by programs external to the Vet Center.
    • Serves as a subject matter expert to agencies and programs external to the Vet Center in matters of readjustment.
    • Exercises advocacy with the goal of enabling and educating the client to effectively advocate for him/herself.
    • Follows Readjustment Counseling Service procedure and reporting policy on clinical crisis.
    • Provides education or facilitates education to elements external to the Vet Center.
    • Ensures good communication and sound clinical treatment of active duty and Veteran clients that are shared with other health care providers as required within community based agencies, Department of Veteran Affairs, and Department of Defense.
    • Exercises a variety of individual and group counseling techniques that are evidence based in the treatment of readjustment counseling problems and demonstrate good clinical practice.
    • Uses initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods or trends and patterns to develop new methods, criteria, and proposed new policies.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the needs and unique presentations of war veterans and can adapt professional practice to accommodate these clients in a trustful environment that facilitates successful readjustment.
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, some evenings and weekends required.
