    Summary

    This position is located in the Department of Labor (DOL), Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), Office of International Relations and Economic Research (OIRER). The mission of OIRER is to advance U.S. labor and employment priorities by leading and coordinating U.S. engagement with international bodies and foreign governments, and researching economic trends and policies.

    Responsibilities

    This position is with the Economic Research (ER) staff and reports to the Chief International Economist (CIE).

    Major duties for this position include but are not limited to, the following:

    • Implements predefined and precisely stated data collection and economic methods to prepare products for use in larger international economic research, studies, and analyses.
    • Searches primary economic research-literature databases to identify citations for review in planned projects.
    • Gathers original data, obtains and reviews existing or historical data, and prepare large quantities of economic data for use by senior colleagues in ongoing research programs of the office.
    • Accesses statistical databases of national statistical agencies and international organizations to extract economic data in Excel, Stata, or SAS formats.
    • Disseminates for ILAB, DOL, or USG interagency comment, economic research of organizations at which ILAB is a member of a research oversight or peer review body and collects and collates comments.
    • Collects and collates contributions from ILAB staff or culled from existing products to contribute to briefing documents, analyses, and reports of economic studies of suitable quality for the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Deputy Undersecretary, and/or further dissemination, as appropriate.
    • Prepares professional-style visualizations of economic data for a wide variety of ILAB products.
    • Maintains all extracted data and other contributions as directed by the CIE or designate in a transparent electronic filing system available to all ER staff.
    • Conducts statistical analysis of large quantities of economic data and consults with the CIE or other senior colleagues on the implications and significance for ILAB programs.
    • Independently sequences and conducts preplanned international economic research, studies, and analyses that demonstrate competent application of accepted professional techniques of research and analysis.
