    EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

    In this position, you will support communities in rebuilding, so individuals, civic institutions, businesses, and governmental organizations can function on their own, return to normal life, and protect against future hazards. Typical assignments include:

    • Serving as a senior expert authority developing, modifying, coordinating, and implementing policy, procedures, standards and criteria on emergency management for development of outreach plans and procedures for the region-wide products and services.
    • Assuring effective coordination of assigned responsibilities in the synchronization of innovations that encourage and foster a multi-hazard, community-based approach to mitigation activities at the Federal, State, and local levels by both governmental and private sector entities.
    • Performing as a spokesperson and/or expert at conferences, meetings, committees and working groups that propose, defend and/or criticize continuity and emergency response criteria, in order to promote and maintain a pro-active response posture.
    • Developing a comprehensive outreach strategy.
