The Acute Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) practices with the VAPORHCS Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences Division for the Acute Psychiatry Patient Care Line. The Acute PMHNP functions with delineated clinical privileges granted by the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff. The Acute PMHNP provides emergent and transitional mental healthcare that includes assessment, diagnosis, screening, and treatment of mental health conditions to Veterans presenting to the ED.Learn more about this agency
The Acute PMHNP performs histories, initiates consults and referrals, and acts as a liaison between the Emergency Department and the Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. In this capacity, the Acute PMHNP makes assessments and recommendations for continued care, makes rapid assessments of clients in a psychiatric crisis, and can take appropriate action in conjunction with other staff and the VA Police as necessary to preserve client and staff safety. The Acute PMHNP assesses suicide risk as a licensed independent practitioner, engages the client in safety planning, and may provide follow up care to clients designated as high risk for suicide and to other clients encountered in inpatient and emergency settings.
Work Schedule: 20 hrs/week; Day shift Monday-Wednesday

EDRP: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility requirement, and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
