    A successful candidate in this position will serve as an expert consultant to the Director, Division of Advanced Energy Systems, and is responsible for developing, directing, and evaluating a comprehensive research, development, and demonstration program in turbines and advanced materials.

    As a Interdisciplinary General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will:

    • Set the short- and long-term strategic and technical direction for the assigned technical program area, and overseeing the development and implementation of research and development activities that will lead to the availability of turbines and advanced materials technologies that will contribute toward the Office of Fossil Energy programmatic and technical goals.
    • Justify and defend the strategy, budget, and approach in the areas of responsibility and provide sound recommendations in the form of a final decision to the Director, Division of Advanced Energy Systems.
    • Coordinate the conduct of policy analyses relating to turbines and advanced materials systems research, identification of policy issues needing further study by DOE management, tracking of policy implementation and evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of established policies.
    • Oversee the preparation of budget allocations and proposals within the turbines and advanced materials programs, articulates rationale for budget priorities, and leads and negotiates the defense of the Administration’s budget within areas of responsibility.
    • Represent the program as an expert in participation in various agency and interagency meetings and forums including panels, round-table discussions, outreach and focus group meetings, and brain storming sessions with other recognized experts on a variety of technical and policy subject matters relating to or bearing on the Advanced Energy Systems Program.

    Travel Required

    25% or less - Up to 5 days of overnight travel may be required per month.
