    Physician Assistants function as agents of their supervisory physician within their identified Scope of Practice. The physician assistant is expected to work effectively with others, which may involve participation in interdisciplinary groups and establishing relationships with professional health related groups in the community. The physician assistant is directly responsible to the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health, Mental Health Service Line Manager, or designee.

    Primary duties include, but not limited to: psychiatric prescriber for veterans, including medication management and clinical (psychiatric) management of veterans, inpatient and outpatient settings. Other assignments may include psych rounds on Community Living Centers (CLCs), consults on inpatient medicine unit and /or CLCs, other duties as assigned, and back-up support for Mental Health Nurse Practitioners in Mental Health/Primary Care Integration (MH/PCI) work units including community outpatient clinics. Any limitations or restrictions will be identified in the incumbent's Scope of Practice. The incumbent will be supported by staff psychiatrists, including psychiatrists available remotely via telemental health. The incumbent may be asked to respond to consults initiated from medicine inpatient units and other CLCs in this facility.

    The incumbent functions as treatment coordinator, monitoring services a client receives as identified in the treatment plan to achieve established goals. The incumbent carries a caseload of clients who need mental health treatment, within the limits of the time remaining after the other requirements of the position are fulfilled.

    Responsibilities for care management include: Ongoing assessment and treatment plan, assesses and interprets the data; diagnoses condition of patient, prescribes diagnostic tests, medication, and treatment modalities, utilizing all elements of the nursing process and functioning within scope of practice. Requests consultations from other services as indicated. Evaluates initial and ongoing plans for patient care. Initiates emergency treatment when indicated, as delineated in scope of practice. Collaborates with other health professionals to insure continuity of care and psychosocial support to patient and significant others. Other duties as assigned.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
