Nurse practitioners' function as agents of their collaborating physician within their identified Scope of Practice. The nurse practitioner is expected to work effectively with others, which may involve participation in interdisciplinary groups and establishing relationships with professional health related groups in the community. The nurse practitioner is directly responsible to the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health, Mental Health Service Line Manager, or designee.
Primary duties include, but not limited to: Providing medical care to Mental Health Patients in the Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Program, prescriber for veterans, including medication management and clinical management of veterans, inpatient and outpatient settings. Other assignments may include rounds on Community Living Centers (CLCs), other duties as assigned, and back-up support for other Practitioners in Mental Health/Primary Care Integration (MH/PCI) work units including community outpatient clinics.
The incumbent will be supported by staff psychiatrists, including psychiatrists available remotely via telemental health, as well as other medical providers. The Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) or Psychiatrist will enter orders for all admissions or discharges. The incumbent functions as treatment coordinator, monitoring services a client receives as identified in the treatment plan to achieve established goals. The incumbent is responsible for formulating the overall treatment plan, as well as treatment plan reviews, for each patient under his/her care. Assesses and interprets the data; diagnoses condition of patient, prescribes diagnostic tests, medication, and treatment modalities, and functioning within scope of practice.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am- 4:30 pm.
