These permanent career-seasonal positions includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.
This permanent career seasonal position is with the Interpretation and Education team at Pullman National Monument, located in south Chicago. The employee will work with diverse audiences, providing Visitor Services at the park and with shared park partner sites. The employee will plan, research and develop interpretive programs and curriculum education programs that will be delivered both on-site and off-site in the Chicago metropolitan area. The employee will help in the recruitment and mentoring of interns, temporary staff, and volunteers and work closely with park partners to accomplish shared goals. The employee will serve as the lead in the operation of a Visitor Center, fostering a safe and engaging visitor experience. Other duties may include developing community outreach contacts for collaborative programming with an emphasis on youth engagement, writing content for park social media, and developing visual support products and temporary exhibits
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
Employees are placed in non-pay status at the end of each identified season and recalled to duty for the next identified season in accordance with the pre-established conditions of employment. An employment agreement will be established prior to entry on duty. Work is guaranteed for at least 13 pay periods (26 weeks) per year.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Physical Demands: Involves extensive periods of standing and walking.
Working Conditions: Ranger presentations are given indoors in visitor centers, in school classrooms or community centers and often outdoors at campground or on trails, some of which are level and some of which are steep and slippery.
