    This position is located in the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (FS), Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Financial Services and Operations, Retail Securities Services (RSS), Division of Securities Accounting, Transaction Accounting Branch, Reconcilement Section. As an Accountant you are responsible for detail level account reconcilements.

    The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12.  If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

    - Assume responsibility for specific reconcilements, reports, or audits to ensure proper accountability, proper payment of periodic interest and principal through the Bureau's systems, and to provide accurate reporting to Fiscal Accounting Office to be used in part or in whole to establish periodic statements to Treasury for the principal and interest, and cash and securities balances of the public debt of the United States.

    - Responsible for preparing daily customer payments originating from various savings instrument systems.

    - Responsible for performing mandated internal audits to ensure proper internal controls.

    - Develop, certify the accuracy of and authorizes for production use bond redemption tables; ensure that redemption values are accurately loaded to the balancing system; verify accuracy and authorize timely release of redemption value tapes to FRBs.

    - May be called upon to assume responsibility for specific projects or portions of large and complex review of savings bond and marketable securities accounting systems and summary level accounting systems.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - perhaps 1-3 times per year.
