Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Work Environment: The work involves performing assignments where there is regular and recurring exposure to extreme discomforts and unpleasantness, particularly during inclement weather or extended periods of traffic and patrol duties. The work regularly entails entry into high physical risk areas and subject the officer to extreme personal danger (e.g. possible physical attack, mob assaults, sniper attacks, which may or may not occur where conditions can be controlled). May be assigned to shift work or may work odd and/or extensive hours in connection with special assignments or emergency situations.
Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
